Chicago Wiknic 2025

[edit]

Let's get together and celebrate Wikipedia this summer with a Wiknic!

Thanks to everyone for coming! Some people who came aren't yet part of the user group. Join us!

Location
Welles Park. The park has picnic tables by the playground, and bathrooms are available within the fieldhouse.

Update: So far the weather for Sunday should be clear, but if there is rain, we will meet up at nearby First Slice Cafe, at 1969 W Montrose Ave.

Update 2: Setting up at the picnic tables. The playground is slightly northwest of the gazebo, for reference.

Update 3: We moved to sit on the grass near the picnic table because too many people showed up, great problem to have!

Update 4: Somebody left behind a Wikipedia-licensed pentomino puzzle in the picnic area.

Update 4.1: I am leaving the park without this pentomino. If someone else in the park relocates or steals it, oh well... AlphaBeta135talk 22:16, 13 July 2025 (UTC)[reply]
I brought that as recycled swag for anybody who wanted it. Enjoy! SBassett (WMF) (talk) 21:10, 14 July 2025 (UTC)[reply]
Time
Sunday, July 13, 2pm-?
About
We'll discuss editing, frolicking, summer fun, and the joys of free information for all. There will be games, food, drink, and other cool stuff.
Transit info
The park is two blocks south of Western (Brown Line) station and is directly served by CTA bus routes 49 Western and 78 Montrose.
Bring
Food, drink, plates, utensils, and napkins will be provided, but attendees are welcome to bring items to share, with allergens clearly marked. (Note: if there is rain and we need to meet up at First Slice instead, do not bring food or drink.)

Maybe

[edit]

Is there more detail about formal presentations or is this a casual/anecdotal event?

This will be a casual event, no specific programming.

Definitely going

I will be bringing cookies, sandwiches, and fruit.

I’m in town for a training and if it ends early I will try to attend
